One of the local favourites is Cape Hillsborough National Park, about 54 minutes drive from Royal Sands, with hoop pine and rain forest-clad hills jutting down to the sea, the scenery is truly pre-historic.
Just to the north of Royal Sands is Shoal Point, Mackay’s most northern of the northern beaches. With spectacular views to the islands and beachfront, shady picnic areas will enable you to enjoy your fresh whiting or reef fish from a cool, scenic vantage point.
The Mackay Golf Course and Mackay Northern Beaches Bowls Club are only 11 minutes drive from Royal Sands Boulevard.
